October 2008
Saturday October 18th represents a very special day in the history of Hayle RFC. Due to the excellent team spirit that the new coaching regime has instilled and the resulting high number of players and those attending training, the club will field three senior sides on the same day. This is a first for the club and it is hoped that the newly established 3rd XV, to be known as the Crusaders will find regular fixtures for the duration of the 2008/9 season.
The inaugral fixture for the newly formed 3rd XV "Hayle Crusaders" was at home on Sat 18th October against a strong St Just XV. Score: Hayle Crusaders 10 St Just 20.

June 2008
The Hayle RFC Rugby Committee is pleased to announce that Cullam Osborne has been appointed Head Coach for the forthcoming season. View Cullam's profile
Cullam has an excellent pedigree as a player and will have the full support of the management to develop the playing sides in line with the club's stated aims. The aim of the club is to play at the highest sustainable level within the confines of the amateur game, thus, promotion back into the Western Counties (West) league is the challenge. A strengthening 2nd XV puts pressure on 1st XV players to maintain both fitness and form and it is also the Club’s aim to create a regular, enthusiastic 2nd XV. Cullam will also liase with the Colts coaches to ease the transition of colts players into the senior sides.

Oxford Blue...
The picture shows proud parents, Donovan and Marea Harris, presenting to Steve Benney, Chairman of Hayle Rugby Club, the jersey worn by their son Adam Harris when representing Oxford University against Cambridge in the Varsity Match on 6th December 2005.
Adam was educated at Hayle Community School and played his early rugby with the Minis and Colts at Hayle. He aspired to join the professional rugby ranks and at the early age of 18 years headed off to Gloucester RFC where he joined the development squad under Richard Hill. A big step for someone who had only played his rugby in Cornwall and at that early age made the huge step to try and achieve lucrative professional contracts.
After 5 years he decided to continue his education at Marjons on a sport and coaching degree course whilst playing part time rugby with Exeter Chiefs. This really worked for him and he achieved an outstanding degree enabling him to take up a Post Graduate Degree at Oxford University which he finished this summer and which has secured him a good job in the City.
He also achieved representative honours with Cornwall, England Students, British Universities and he still plays rugby part time for Newberry RFC one league below the premiership.
His younger brother Zack is still a playing member at Hayle and the Rugby Club are grateful for the support of the Harris family and are very pleased to be able to accept the presentation which will be displayed in the Club. |
